| Maya Animal Bone Images Since
1997 I have been photographing skeletal elements of the various
animals used by the ancient Maya and found in deposits at
the sites we excavate. Not only are the elements often very
beautiful, but these photographs are designed to reveal characters
on the bones and shell that are used in zooarchaeological
identification and analysis.
These images are useful as a guide for identification although
they should never be used without reference to a physical
comparative collection.
So far, through my work and that of several other researchers
at the FLMNH, we have a collection of some 12,000 images of
elements from 769 taxa. Please contact me if you would like
more information about these collections.
